Kelsi x Kanye

Love him (as I do) or hate him (like most people), there is no denying Kanye has impeccable style.  He was even named GQ magazine's Most Stylish Man of 2014, so I know I'm not alone in appreciating his swag.  I have been a fan of Yeezy's unique style of dress and music since I first heard "All Falls Down" off of his debut album "College Dropout" (still probably my favourite album, ever) in 2004. It's hard to believe that was 11 years ago, when I was just 15!  In an ode to Ye's steez, I recreated three of my favourite recent Kanye looks.

First up: Kanye (he's on the left, in case you weren't sure who was who) wore this streetwear inspired look this past summer.  The Louis Vuitton Don paired light denim with a gray short-sleeved hoody, layered over a tall tee, and a pair of Air Max 90s.

Most clothes are black or white. But I don’t like all that contrast. It looks either too work, too waiter, or too wedding-y to me. If that’s even a word, wedding-y. Anyway, that’s why I like tonal. There’s less contrast; it’s more casual.

I didn't have to go far to find what I needed to recreate this look. Kanye's hoody is practically identical to the Publish Brand Ash hoodie.  I layered it over an XS Zanerobe tall tee to get the same effect.  My go-to Zanerobe Slingshot Denimos were the right wash and I got a chance to rock my new all white Clearweather Brand sneakers.  This entire outfit is from Banjo Outpost.

Next up: In the fall, Kim K tweeted this picture of her husband rocking this outfit, which is likely my most favourite look.  His getup screams IDGAF, with Timberland's on his feet, destroyed denim, a hoody under an oversized plaid shirt, and don't forget the gold chain.

My husband bought my these Tim's for my birthday this year and they have become my official weekend footwear.  While we were in Vegas recently, I picked up this pair of ripped jeans at Urban Outfitters (dammit, now they are on sale).  I wore the same Publish Brand hoody from the previous look and threw on a Zanerobe 7ft Red Flanno shirt from Banjo.  The look was complete with a heavy gold chain from my bestie and photog Desiree.

PS I think outfit is best worn while blasting Big Sean's song IDFWU.

Last up: This look proves Kanye cleans up nicely.  His entire August 2014 GQ Cover Shoot was on-point.  I'm loving his ($5,000) long Calvin Klein camel coat, ($290) Balmain tee, ($195) Michael Kors pants, and ($190) Timberland boots.  Sophistication.

Skinny pants are rock ‘n’ roll. And big coats are really hip-hop. I’m looking for 50 percent rock ‘n’ roll, 50 percent hip-hop, 50 percent genius. Because, you know—for genius, you have to be at a hundred and fifty percent.

When I found this Vero Moda coat at The Bay this winter, I immediately thought of Kanye's coat, which he also rocks on the street, and I just had to have it.  I thew on my hubby's oversize Zanerobe white tee, some pants I've had forever and can't remember where I got them, and of course, my Timbo's.

A huge thank you to Desiree Martin Photography for the images. Holla at her for all your photography needs.  I had so much fun recreating Kanye's looks and am thinking of doing this for other fashion icons as well! If you have any requests, please leave your ideas in the comments below.
