Holiday Gift Guide for Babes

It seems I have no shortage of gift ideas for my two and a half year old Bella; she’s into princesses, movies, clothes, books… the list goes on. It’s easy to give friends and family gift ideas for Bella when they ask, but then when it comes to our two-month old Luca I found it much more difficult to generate ideas. After some thought, research, questioning other moms, and shopping around (it was a tough job, but I did it ;), I came up with a few fool-proof gift ideas for baby’s first Christmas.

Cuddle + Kind Doll

First up, a Cuddle and Kind doll. I especially love this gift idea because the purchase of every doll provides 10 meals to children in need. This Canadian, family-owned company offers not only 28 different adorable, knit dolls but also gives back. And added bonus, each handmade doll is made by women artisans in Peru, providing them with a sustainable, fair trade income. I chose Sebastian the Lamb for Luca, but also have my eye on the Penelope the Flamingo and Ella the Unicorn for Bella. So cute, so cuddly, and so kind :)

Teething Garland

Since I’ve already been through this baby thing once, I know that Luca will soon be a drooly, teething, hot mess. Although he’s not at that stage yet, I recall it will be approaching in the coming weeks. Many of Bella’s teething toys were pink and girly, so I was in the market for new teethers for Luca. I fell in love with the idea of a teething garland, when I spotted this Little Chomperz one at Cravings. You can tie either end on the handle of the carseat, so your little one has something to keep them occupied when you are out and about. It’s also secure so you don’t have to worry about it hitting the floor and getting yucky. I love supporting local and Little Chomperz is made right here in Saskatchewan.

Hair Accessories

So this one might be more for a baby girl, but how lovely are these handmade mommy and me matching headbands by Sew Bright Creations?! I live for twinning with my baby girl (and Luca too of course) and these adjustable headbands can fit any size, from baby to big kid (and even mom)! The mint color is one of my favs from maker Jackie’s Etsy shop but if you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, she gladly accepts custom orders! I’m thinking of summoning her to make Luca a mint beanie to match Bella and I as well!

Little People, Big Dreams Books + Jellycat Stuffy

I truly believe one can never have too many books (just ask the book shelf in Bella’s room that is actually burst at the seams because it holds so many books). Our favourite book series these days is Little People, Big Dreams. They tell the stories of inspiring females in history, in a fun and simple way for young children to understand. Among our favourites that we already have are Coco Chanel, Amelia Earhart, Maya Angelou, and Rosa Parks. But the series keeps coming out with more titles, so on our wishlist are Maria Montessori, Audrey Hepburn and Frida Kahlo. These can be found at Indigo, along with the famous Jellycat Bunny. Jellycat makes the softest, coziest stuffies. We have a few bunnies and other favourite Jellycat stuffies include the Cloud, Avocado, Flamingo, Goose, Pineapple.

Christmas Ornament

An absolute must-have for baby’s first Christmas is an ornament for the tree to mark the special occasion. I’m a sucker for anything sentimental so a print of my baby’s tiny hand will be sure to get me every time I unpack our tree ornaments. Cue the tears. This one by Pearhead is super safe, easy, and quick. The clay allows for re-dos as many times as it takes you to get it right! This one is available locally at my fav, Cravings Boutique in Saskatoon. An adorable stocking stuffer and Christmas morning activity.

Music Class

I love the idea of gifting ‘experiences’ for Christmas. For babies, it can be challenging to generate ideas and as they grow, it often feels like they already have everything they need and more. I have to admit, I do not like having ‘too much stuff’ around the house and am always trying to clear out clutter. That’s why this next one, a We Move SK gift card for enrolment in one of their Music Together sessions is one of my favourite gift ideas! I love doing activities with my kids and this one tops the list. Music Together encourages all children to participate, process, and experiment with music. I bring Bella and Luca to Music Together and both enjoy and participate in the class in different ways. It is designed for children from birth to 7, and provides an environment they need to grow and develop while interacting both socially and musically with other children of varying ages. I can’t say enough good things about this class, which is why we keep signing up, session after session. In addition to music class, We Move SK also offers Toddler and Kinder AcroDance, Ballet, Jazz, and Hip Hop classes for little ones, so there are lots of good options to make use of a gift card.

One week left to Christmas shop, mamas! According to my instagram poll the other day, over 50% of you still have shopping left to do, so I hope this gift guide was helpful! I have one thing left to pick up, but knowing me, that could turn into several :D

Happy shopping!
